Install the app and turn on push
tasks is a web app you can install like an app: with its own icon, its own window, push notifications and offline reading. No app store needed. Updates arrive by themselves the next time you open it.
1. Install
iPhone and iPad
- Open
app.tasks.squibble.chin Safari and sign in. - Tap Share (the square with the arrow), then Add to Home Screen.
- Tap Add.
On iPhone, push only works in the installed app, from iOS 16.4.
Android
- Open
app.tasks.squibble.chin Chrome. - Tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
Mac, Windows and Linux
- Chrome and Edge: click the install icon on the right of the address bar, then Install.
- Safari on a Mac: File → Add to Dock.
- Firefox: Firefox does not install web apps, but push still works in an open tab.
2. Turn on push
- In the installed app, open Settings → Notifications.
- Choose Turn on push in this browser and allow notifications when your device asks.
- In the table, choose how each event reaches you: by Push, by Mail or only in the App, the list behind the bell.
| Event | When |
|---|---|
| Assigned to me | someone assigns a task to you |
| Due today | one of your tasks is due today |
| Overdue | one of your tasks is overdue |
| Up for grabs in the workspace | a task nobody is assigned to is waiting in a shared workspace |
| Mail capture failed | a forwarded mail did not become a task |
Push is turned on per device. Repeat step 2 on every phone and computer that should get notifications.
3. Set up the daily overview
The daily overview sums up once a day what is overdue, due today, due soon and up for grabs.
- Under Daily overview, choose the Delivery: off, by mail, by push, or by mail and push.
- Choose the Time, for example 07:30.
4. Quiet hours and workspaces
- Quiet hours: from 22:00 to 07:00, for example, no push arrives. Mail still does.
- Per workspace: set a workspace to Mail only or Muted, such as your company’s at the weekend, until a date if you like.
If it does not work
- “Add Tasks to your home screen”: on iPhone, push only reaches the installed app. Install it as above and open the settings there.
- “This browser blocks notifications”: you declined notifications once. Allow them in the browser’s site settings or in the device’s notification settings.
- Offline: the lists you loaded last stay readable, and changes you make are sent as soon as the device is back online.
Frequently asked questions
Does tasks work offline and on my phone?
tasks is a web app for computer and phone that you install like an app on your Home Screen, on the iPhone through “Add to Home Screen”. You do not need an app from the App Store.
Without a connection the installed app still opens, and views you have already loaded stay readable. Changes you make offline are kept and sent as soon as you are back online. If that causes a conflict, the app shows it to you to decide.
How am I reminded of due tasks?
If a task has a time, you get a push notification at that time. When a task is assigned to you, you get a push as well. On top of that comes the daily digest: once a day, at 07:30 by default, with what is overdue, due today, due in the next days and up for grabs. It arrives by email, by push or both, and not at all on days with nothing due.
On the iPhone, push needs the installed app on your Home Screen. You can remove each device again in the settings.
